Books in Homes is proud to announce the winner of the 2023 Mainfreight Best Book Giving Assembly Competition as Doonside Public School in Doonside, NSW. Doonside Public School is the fourth winner of the competition, which was launched in 2019. (The Competition was not held in 2020 due to the onset of Covid 19.)

Twenty-four Mainfreight-sponsored schools were automatic entrants into the competition, which recognised the best effort for organising live or virtual Book Giving Assemblies over three terms during 2023. Mainfreight representatives, as well as Books in Homes Role Models, were the judges, and awarded points across multiple criteria. The team at Doonside Public School were presented with a perpetual trophy and a smaller trophy in recognition of their excellent achievement and for emphasising the Books in Homes theme—“Read to Succeed”.

Doonside Public School Principal David Galea says:

It is always a pleasure for Doonside PS to present and perform at our Books in Homes assemblies with the presence of Mainfreight staff and guests. This has been an honour since 2005. To be acknowledged and to receive the award for Mainfreight’s Best Book Giving Assembly for 2023 has been a phenomenal acknowledgement and greatly appreciated.”
